All American day

After attending our worship service at Constance Free this morning, we headed down to the Metrodome today. The Twins were playing the Mariners for the final game of the series. The Twins had won the first 2 games and started out with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. As we have seen though, no lead is safe against the Mariners. The Twins kept building the lead to 8-0 and then the Mariners started their comeback. They scored 4 times with 3 home runs, ending Glen Perkins night in the 6th. Justin Morneau hit one himself in the bottom of the 6th off the right seats. The Mariners kept fightng and pulled up to 10-8 in the 8th when Joe Nathan came in with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He recorded the out and finished with a strong 9th as the Twins won 11-8.

To add to the all american day, we saw a bald eagle fly over i-94 on the way home. The eagle must have been flying over the Mississippi which runs parallel to the freeway in Brooklyn Center.

Of course I also watched the olympics as I finished my day, just needed some apple pie.

Constance Softball Playoffs

Well it was a great season guys! 11-1 and tied for first place, we even received t-shirts. Family of Christ Red ended our season early with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win the game. Our bats were a little flat as we only scored 7 times. Steve Stelly was kind enough to set up a picinic dinner afterwards and we enjoyed hot dogs and burgers.

Go Constance!

$7500 tax credit!

A new law passed allowing you to claim a $7500 credit as a first time home buyer this year. It does need to be paid back over 15 years or upon the sale of your home, but this could wipe out your federal tax bill this year and then some. Here are the details. http://www.realtor.org/GAPublic.nsf/files/chart_homebuyer_tax_credit_.pdf/$FILE/chart_homebuyer_tax_credit_.pdf

Redneck bottleneck moves West

If you drive through Coon Rapids during rush hour you will be glad to read this note. Highway 10 from Egret to Hanson Blvd will be upgraded to 6 lanes next year. MnDOT plans to spend $10 million to move the redneck bottleneck west 3 miles, potentially eliminating the jam completely for afternoon and morning commuters. Construction will start next April and continue until November when the new lanes will open. The largest expense in the project will be replacing the bridges over the railroad tracks.

Currently, Highway 10 goes from 3 lanes to 2 right after 610 and 47 join the freeway, making for a long slow rush hour as traffic merges. Now the 3rd lane will end at Hanson where 1/3 of the cars exit anyways, This could easily knock off 5-10 minutes from your commute!

Another family "HOME by Friday!"

I just helped Kandace and Alan buy their first home. I found them a great deal on a foreclosed home in Coon Rapids. These homes are starting to sell at a brisk pace as we were in two multiple offer situations.

State tourney time

The Minnesota state men's softball tourney was held at Taft park in Richfield this weekend and Constance Free was there to compete. We eliminated 2 teams from the toruney and beat one other team on our way to a 3-2 finish. Lossing our 2nd game 10-7 made our road to the championship daunting as we then needed to win 7 straight games to claim the prize. We won our first game this morning even after spotting the other team 6 runs in the first inning. We then went on to shut them down and scored 11 runs. The next team just kept on hitting and we wilted in the heat ending on run with a 14-4 loss.

The play of the tourneyhad to have been the shot up the middle which Scott knocked down and Jim picked up and did a no look back flip to Steve at second.

On to the league playoffs which start Monday with out us but, we can play 3 straight the following Monday to claim our t-shirts!

11-1 may not be good enough

Well we finished our regular season tonight with a 9-0 win against Total Chaos. We started and ended our season with our only 2 shutouts of the year. Jim Blair turned 2 double plays and the rest of the team played great defense. If Epiphany wins though, they will be league champs with the 3 way tie with Cross of Christ. Tommie Casey broke out of a little slump with an in the park home run.

Our State tourney starts tomorrow in Richfield at Taft Park field #1 11:20 am. Stop by and enjoy the competition.

Great season guys!

Constance softball week 11

This week was a rematch with Horizon Silver and Troy let me know they were looking to beat us. We were off to our typical slow start and trailed in the game until we scored 5 in the bottom of the 4th to take a 9-5 lead. We mixed up the line up a little, having Steve Stelly start at pitcher and Adam Kirshner out in right center. Horizon used a 5th infielder the entire game although, that never really seemed to pay off with any outs. Scott had his signature triple and I had my first home run of the year (in the park). Pete has gone back to hitting from the right side and had a good night at the plate. Our defense was a little shaky so we need to clean that up by this weekends state tourney. We ended up winning 12-11 with the tieing run on first base. That puts us at 10-1, still 1/2 game behind Cross of Christ and tied with Epiphany. Friday night game against Total Chaos will determine how we end up in the standings.

Header goal for the winner!

The district tourney started today at the National Sports Center in Blaine for our Minnesota Revolution U15C2 girls soccer team. The New Brighton Blaze were the draw and they struck first with a goal late in the first half. The days rain had flooded some of the fields but ours was just good and wet with quite a few puddles on the field. As the second half started off, New Brighton seemed to escape one close chance by the Rev aftr another. Our break came on a free kick by Sarah Dettinger with about 20 minutes left in the game, which the goalie slowed but didn't keep out of the net. We had several additonal chances on corner kicks but the game was still tied with 5 minutes left. We just pushed into another corner kick from the right side. Sarah Dettinger took the kick and Jenny Friday headed the ball into the net with just a few minutes to go for her second header goal of the season.

Overall the team is really playing and passing well and we could have scored on a couple of other opportunities. We now play again tomorrow at 1pm and then 7pm. When we win those games we will go to the state tourney next weekend.

Great game girls!

Coming through in the clutch!

I just taught my 3rd daughter how to drive a clutch. The first 2 daughters were prone to killing the engine and they took quite a while to get the launch down. Once they mastered that they have done very well and my oldest daughter still drives a clutch now 7 years later.

That brings me to todays fun. My youngest daughter had just the opposite issue as she peeled out on her first attempt to go forward. The neighbors had a good laugh once they realized it was her and not me. She also struggled finding third gear a couple of times, first gear at 40 never works real well. The cars behind us were none to forgiving and that frustated her even more.

Never had such a thrilling ride to the movie store before, but I have already survived this twice before so once more shouldn't be too bad.
